Two York Women, both keen supporters of fair trade and global education, have produced a colourful new booklet to bring alive some of the stories behind the fair trade movement. Fair's Fair uses stories, photographs and original artwork to illustrate how lives can be changed by fair trade. Editors and authors, Margot Brown and Kathryn Tissiman, have researched 10 short stories - from the 18th Century to the present day - which highlight the work of fair trade pioneers around the world. Both spent their working lives in education so the 24-page booklet is also supported by a free set of teaching notes, written by Helen Harrison, a fellow teacher, and is available on the Fair Trade York website.

Kathryn Tissiman says: "It's been fascinating to research the campaigns for fairly traded goods, including sugar, flowers, coffee, rugs, olive oil and bananas. As a former teacher living in a Fairtade City, I'm especially keen to help young people understand the difference they can make by buying fair trade. However, we hope that the booklet will help inspire adults and children, parents and teachers alike".

This book is a must for all schools, teachers, families, churches, youth groups and Fair Trade Towns campaigns working to explore issues of Trade justice with children and young adults.

The book introduces Sami, a young teenager who starts looking at all the things she uses every day and where they come from.

Taking in the stories of anti slavery campaigners Hannah More and Levi Coffin, the Rochdale pioneers, the original Fair Trade coffee from Max Havelaar, Nobel peace prize winner Kailash Satyarthi, and Fair trade products from Palestine, Kenya and Colombia, the book ends by talking to Fair Trade Towns powerhouse Bruce Crowther MBE and Fairtrade Yorkshire anchor Mark Dawson.

All proceeds will go to the work of the York Fair Trade Forum, promoting Fair Trade in the city of York and its environs.

UK P&P £3 for up to 5 copies and free thereafter.
